We have completed the range hood project. It is installed and working. Praise God!!! It took a lot longer than I wanted or expected, but when working on a limited budget and with volunteer’s things do not always go as planned. We had several volunteers that were not able to help when we finally got States approval on August 6, 2011 to begin the work. We had trouble getting contractors that were willing to do the work. I (Pastor Hyman) had to be involved and do a lot of the labor; however, we finally got it done. We do want to thank everyone that was involved with this project either financially, with labor, prayer, or in kind donations. If anyone wishes for a refund of the money you sent to this project please let us know and we will gladly refund your funds. All funds not spent on this project will apply to the other projects to be done.
Now we must move on to other projects.
We are working on putting in the support beams under the floor this is a code requirement. Cost about $3.000.00 with us doing all the work ourselves we have $1500.00 so far for this project. We have dug out the 2ft x 2ft holes 8 in deep every 4 ft. for a total of 21, we have put in the rebar, fill them with cement, we are putting up the 4x4 post with a 6x6 beam on top of the 4x4 post. This has to run from the front of the building to the back. This is for added weight load support.
We are also being required to update the electrical system to a 200 amp service panel, per the state code requirements. Cost about $7150.00 for materials we have a $2000.00 grant from Cargill for this project, we still need the additional funds. The electrical system we currently have is a 100 amp system. The current system is mostly Romex wire. We now have to run conduit, new wire, electrical panel, meter base, riser, and other items.
We need our roof repaired not a requirement yet but a need, it only leaks when it rains, we do keep putting tar on it as a temporary fix. GAF has donated the material, but we need someone to install it. An estimate to have it put on was $8550.00. Five (5) star roofing has given us an estimate of $8775 for a complete roof recoating system with a 20 year warranty.
PS - - We will move into Hedges January 2012.
Even though we are moving does not change the fact that the State is requiring the work to be done, we were required to do the work long before we knew we were moving to Hedges. We plan to use the existing meal ministry building for emergency feeding events, incase the power goes out, we have a gas stove here, Hedges is total electric.
We are planning other uses for the building as well but have not determined the real use as of yet. Some thoughts are for clothing ministry, furniture ministry, baby needs, fundraiser events, etc. We alredy have clothing, furniture, and other items in storage to start the new ministry. This is to open March 2012.
We have a meal at 301 Main St. on Sunday evening for those who wish to come after Church at 7:30pm.
We do a meal Wednesday evening at 5:30pm at the Church fellowship room [First Church of the Nazarene, 424 Vine St.] for anyone who wishes to come.
