Local Outreach / Missions oriented opportunity...

This opportunity is available on many levels. What I mean by many levels is that this is an opportunity that all people can get behind. Or a special department, like Youth, Men’s, Ladies or Missions department can plan outreach activities. And individuals have the opportunity to make a tremendous impact on the lives of others. So weather you have 2 or 2,000 members in your group we can provide you with the means to reach the needy people right here in Mt. Vernon.

What this opportunity will mean...

As you can tell from our address, we are located here in Mt. Vernon. At the Cross Mission is currently providing one meal a day, 4 evenings a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday). We are in the process of converting a portion of our facility into a homeless shelter (overnight sleeping facility). We have met and talked with some of the homeless people, most are single men or women; however, we have encountered some children.

Here we have the opportunity to walk out our faith. We meet people who are hurting and life won’t stop kicking them. We have a Prayer Request box that is never empty. Some of the prayers are predictable; some are astounding. But the Praise reports are the most amazing. The people who walk in our doors meet volunteers who serve them. These volunteers are walking bibles; living testaments of God’s love. How do I dare such a claim? Easy! I personally know of 2 suicide plans prevented. And so much more real ministry continues daily.

What kind of opportunity this is...

There are several ways to be apart of this outreach. Listed here are just a few. Your church may have a unique way to support our endeavor to reach folks in Mt. Vernon.

• Prayerfully: We need those who will consistently pray for the Lost who come through our doors. We need those who will pray for this ministry to thrive and grow to meet the growing need. We need those who have been without and know how to pray for the hungry, homeless and hurting.
• Financially: All ministries need this. We are no exception. No gift is too small or too large. All gifts are used directly for this ministry. All those involved are volunteers (no salaries).
• The monthly Non-Food cost is $ 2,500. The monthly Food Cost is $1,000.
• The monthly Maintenance cost (approx) $1,500 some things just go undone because we do not have the funds.
• The expected cost of materials for the homeless shelter is currently $250,000. (20+ beds nightly) Depends on State regulations.
• Materials: Wide variety here.
• We give away precooked & non Perishable Food. We give away clothing: All seasons, Baby’s, Kid’s, Ladies’ & Men’s. We give away personal hygiene items.
• We need building materials: lumber, roofing, safety equipment, windows, doors, etc.
• Furniture: Twin bunk bed sets and twin linens (we already have 20 Twin mattresses). Sofa chairs for common area.
• People: The heart of this ministry
• Servers, cooks, busers, handymen/women, construction, clean-up, water bearers, bible study leaders, musicians and singers (etc).

What this opportunity could mean to your church or group...

As you can see there is room for everyone in this ministry. You can adopt us as one of your Missionaries. You can...
“Adopt-a-Day”: Donating 1/30th of our monthly costs to run the mission.

“Adopt-a-Meal”: Serve a meal here. (Bring in / Prepare here) one designated night each month (i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, Mon, Tue, Thurs, Fri)

“Adopt-a-Bed”: Commit to pray for Bed #1-20, pray for the unknown one who sleeps in it, tonight, and every night.  Comming soon.

“Adopt-a-Project”: Support any project in our ministry (in the ways listed above)

Nothing builds up a church like reaching out.

In the last two years our church has increase by 8 active attendees. All of these folks were met through the Soup Kitchen / Food Pantry ministry. These 8 saw and felt God’s love and came to investigate Him further.

Thank you and God Bless
